After 5 days of hard poker competition Spanish player Javier Gomez has emerged victorious in this year’s partypoker.net WPT Prague Main Event. He topped the 256 entry field and collecting his first major title along with the €175,000 prize money plus $15,400 ticket to next year’s WPT Tournament of Champions.

December 9, 2015 11:08 amThe WPT Prague was held at the Corinthia Towers Hotel in the Czech Republic’s capital city, with 256 players showing up at the venue’s Main Event to create a prize pool worth €730,340 ($773,824). Six days later, and it would Spain’s Javier Gomez who would triumph over the field to collect the prestigious title, as well as the tournament’s top prize of €175,000 ($185,110).
According to the Hendon Mob, Javier Gomez has now cashed in just four events throughout his career, amassing $433,352 in winnings along the way. Despite being his first tournament title, however, the latest score is only his second highest to date, the biggest being a 5th place finish at the 2015 Malta Main Event for €205,300 ($222,080).
A number of notable pros took part in the €3,300 WPT Main Event, and amongst those finishing in one of the competition’s 27 money spots was Yann Dion in 15th (€10,300), Steve O’Dwyer in 14th (€10,300) and Igor Yaroshevskyy in 12th (€12,500).
After the final table of six had been set, Javier Gomez (K-Q) eliminated Henrik Hecklen (A-4) in 6th (€34,100), before being dealt 10-10 and doing likewise to Abdelkader Benhalima (6-6) in 5th for €43,000. Continuing his steamroll, Gomez (6-6) sent Pedro Marques (A-J) to the rail in 4th (€57,400), while Gomez’ A-9 was also good enough to see off Fahredin Mustafov (7-7) in 3rd for €77,500, thus ushering in the heads-up phase of the competition.
As the final battle got underway, Gomez held a roughly 4 to 1 chip lead over Russian player Pavel Plesuv, but the tournament would continue for another four-hours before the winning hand was played. After Plesuv moved all-in preflop holding Qd-10d, Gomez made the call with 6c-6s, and following a 5c-Kc-9c-4c-Jc board by the dealer Pavel Plesuv had to be satisfied with a runner-up finish worth €120,000, while Javier Gomez was crowned the 2015 WPT Prague champion.
